Renaissance Tower

Renaissance Tower is an apartment complex at 501 W. Olympic Boulevard in downtown Los Angeles. Ed Carpenter was commissioned to create a dramatic window adjacent to the elevators in the main lobby. Residents and their guests pass through this lobby in coming and going from the building and are greeted on entering by this colorful 20’ high art installation. In addition to providing a lively presence within the building, the window also serves as a screen between the upscale interior and the somewhat gritty streetscape outside. Made with Carpenter’s unique technique of encapsulating glass, copper, and marbles within double glazed window panels, the complex layering of materials creates unusual depth and richness.
